So I worked the brunch today. Nothing too exciting. Although I would like to share a little story that happened with one of my co-workers.
J is Chinese-American. His parents moved to NYC before he was born, so this is all he knows. They ran a little Deli in Kew Gardens Queens for 30 years before "retiring" to Pennsylvania. J is a young guy, just finishing his theater degree from SUNY. This is what took place today, as I witnessed it, but apparently it happens often:
A youngish white yuppie couple are seated at the booth in J's section. J walks up to greet them.
J: Hi. What can I get you to drink today?
They: ohhh....where are you from?
J: Umm...Queens?
They: NO, like where are you really from? Your Heritage?
J: Oh! I'm Chinese.
They: OHHHH...we love china. We go there ALL the time!
J: That's cool. I am actually going there for the first time in July. I've always wanted to go meet my relatives.
They: (Through laughter) How funny! We know more about your home country than you do ! (Hahahahaha.....)
j: Excuse me?
They: (Very seriously) Of course, home is really always right here (puts hand over her heart.)
J walked away visibly annoyed. I watched him, this hard working son of immigrant parents, knowing that he is as American as I, and certainly as much as the 2 people sitting in the booth.
I hate brunch.

What's going on.
So starting here, I promise I will TRY to be a good little blogger this year. I got sidetracked before with the Holidays, then January, I was so busy wrapped up in a blanket on my couch trying to stay warm and sane that I did not have time to write. Plus, I have been down in my back, which as many of you know from earlier posts makes me very boring and preoccupied with my health, which zaps my inspiration to write anything. Just writing out my rent check bout did me in.
But I am back, and with a little advice from my Doctor, I feel myself gaining strength and improving daily. I am currently on the job search for something that will allow me to sit, but they are being really great at the restaurant trying accomodate me. I have always been blessed with employment.
So 2 of my regular customers invited me to a Superbowl Party. "Thanks alot, " I replied," but I don't follow hockey." Now, people, I am not a complete idiot. I said this as a joke. The funny thing? This was their reply: "Oh, don't worry, we don't either. We're going to watch Valley of the Dolls!"
I still declined.
So the next 2 days I will be hands on doing volunteer work for the Super Tuesday Elections. I am even going to a campaign rally at Rockefeller Center on Tuesday. I will let you know the details. Very Excited!!!

Welcome
Remember the Bedazzler? Back in the eighties, everything was bedazzled. There was nary a t-shirt in my closet that was not embellished with some glitter paint or a spot of sequins. If ebay had been around, my grandmother would have been a millionaire.
I was raised by generations of strong women who taught me to see the sparkle in everyday life. Even now I am a sucker for anything sparkly and shiny. A marketer's deam, if you will. This is why I have decided to title my blog "BeJeweled" as a play on my name, however "jeweled" was more aesthetically pleasing than "juled." So I invite you to check in on a regular basis for your daily dose of "sparkle."
For my regular readers, this blog will replace the Friendster site. New readers can catch up on my archives here.
